In 1989 students danced on the Berlin Wall, “Wind Beneath my Wings” by Bette Midler was a number one song, the Oakland A’s won the only World Series ever delayed by an earthquake and a young college student at Georgetown University named Anthony Kennedy Shriver gathered his friends together and created the first Best Buddies chapter.
Today, twenty years later, Best Buddies has programs in all 50 States and 42 countries.
This year Best Buddies is celebrating our 20th anniversary of providing friendships, leadership opportunities and jobs to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
In honor of this important milestone, we are launching The Give 20 Challenge. Best Buddies Pennsylvania is asking our supporters to help mark this milestone with a gift.
The Give 20 Challenge asks you to become a Challenger by registering online at www.bestbuddiespennsylvania.org/give20. Challengers are asked to raise $400 by using your free customizable webpage and pre-designed e-mail templates to reach out to 20 friends and ask them to support Best Buddies with a $20 donation.
Your friends will make a difference by giving the gift of friendship to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Meeting the $400 goal will sponsor a Buddy Pair for an entire year. How many friendships can your friends support? Help us show the rest of the nation just how generous Pennsylvanians are while supporting local friendships.
